There's a children's book I have read to the kids and I, for the life of me, cannot remember the title. It's about a little girl making birthday wishes that come true. One of her wishes is for "snow, snow and more snow." And, thought it's summertime in the book, they get piles of snow. I need to find out who has been wishing or praying for snow....
We continue to wait for the homestudy and the last piece of notarized paperwork to arrive. It's hard to wait. Yet, it's a good time to prepare. We keep talking with the kids about special needs. I want them to be able to embrace all of God's children, whether they look like them or not.
One of the needs we are considering is cleft lip and palate. So, we sat together and watched a video called Smile, Pinki. It is an incredible story of a little girl who receives free, life changing surgery through the non-profit organization, Smile Train. Smile Train serves cleft-affected people in poorer countries around the globe.
We don't see cleft-affected kids in the states because the surgery happens by 3 months of age. But, in poor countries, these kids live life with the cleft. Their parents don't know why it happened. The children aren't accepted. They don't go to school. They have no future, no hope. But, with one $250 surgery these lives are forever changed. $250...we'll easily drop double that on a TV and not blink an eye.
