It's Warfare

The last week of our lives was incredibly insane. It started with a lame tax man that sent H. and I into a tizzy to find a reliable tax man who could come through. We had homeschool, work and life schedules that kept us running from early in the morning till bed time. By Friday, we were exhausted and crabby. Every last one of us. None of us enjoys that kind of a schedule. But it happened. Things creep in. Little things become big things because we don't have the energy or time for a quiet prayer and a deep, settling breath.
Then I remembered. We are in a battle. This is warfare. Spiritual warfare.  As H. and I move closer to the child God has chosen for our family, the enemy of our souls becomes more alarmed. Why would Satan want this child, any child, in our family.  In our own imperfect way, but with God at the helm, we seek to lead our children, any and all, toward the God who created them. We strive to help them develop a relationship with Christ; to know their maker as a Father and King. Seeing it for what it was, we reclaimed and defended what is ours by the blood of Christ.
This warfare occurred in scripture, too. Just read the accounts of an Egyptian Pharaoh (see Exodus) or of Herod (see Matthew 2). Satan waged war on innocent, defenseless little ones because they were a threat. Consider this text from Adopted for Life, by Russell D. Moore:

"The demonic powers hate babies because they hate Jesus. When they destroy 'the least of these' (Matt. 25:40, 45), the most vulnerable among us, they're destroying a picture of Jesus himself, of the child delivered by the woman who crushed their head (Gen. 3:15).
